Section 2
Entrepreneurship is a challenging endeavor, and for those with disabilities, the path to success often includes hidden barriers and obstacles. Ayakoz Schneider, a remarkable entrepreneur based in Astana, has not only overcome these challenges but has also created opportunities for herself and others through her social enterprise. Ayakoz's story is an inspiring testament to the transformative power of entrepreneurship, demonstrating how those with disabilities can thrive in the business world.

Ayakoz's journey began amidst profound personal loss and health complications. After the sudden death of her husband, she found herself raising six children on her own. Adversity struck further when Ayakoz suffered a stroke, leading to her official disability status. Despite her higher education and impressive work experience, finding meaningful employment proved difficult due to the constraints imposed by her disability. Determined to provide for her family, Ayakoz enrolled in the "Bastau" training scheme, equipping herself with the skills needed to start her own business.

With the help of a grant, Ayakoz opened her sewing shop, "Jibek," named after her beloved grandmother. Ayakoz's entrepreneurial journey not only sustains her family but also creates employment opportunities for people with disabilities. She firmly believes that it is not the disability itself that limits individuals but rather the barriers imposed by society. Ayakoz's venture highlights the challenges faced by entrepreneurs with disabilities in Kazakhstan and emphasizes the need to address these barriers.

The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic coincided with Ayakoz's rehabilitation period after her stroke. Undeterred, she seized the opportunity to contribute to her community's well-being by sewing face masks. Together with her children, Ayakoz tirelessly stitched masks, fulfilling orders from medical clinics, pharmacies, and sponsors distributing masks for free. Despite the demanding workload and medical advice to rest, Ayakoz persevered, working through sleepless nights to meet the growing demand. Her dedication during this challenging time exemplifies the entrepreneurial spirit that drives her forward.

Ayakoz's vision extends beyond her personal success. Having witnessed the impact of disability in her own life, she aims to build a community that supports those with disabilities. Ayakoz prioritizes hiring people with disabilities in her sewing shop recognizing the responsibility and dedication they bring to their work. For Ayakoz, work is not solely about income but also a source of distraction and a sense of belonging for individuals facing hardships. She understands the transformative power of providing a supportive community where people with disabilities can thrive and find solace.

Inspired by the positive effects of knitting on her eldest son, who also has a disability, Ayakoz plans to organize free knitting courses for children with cerebral palsy and autism. She recognizes knitting as a powerful tool for developing fine motor skills, perseverance, and a sense of focus, offering solace from illness and other challenges. Through her entrepreneurial endeavors, Ayakoz aims to empower those with disabilities, fostering their personal growth and providing them with opportunities for self-expression and development.

Despite her remarkable journey, Ayakoz acknowledges the multiple forms of discrimination that disabled individuals, especially women and the elderly, face in employment. She highlights the complexities of accessing financial support and the high interest rates on loans, particularly for socially-oriented entrepreneurs like herself. Ayakoz advocates for tailored education, mentoring, and acceleration programs to support socially-oriented entrepreneurs, emphasizing the need for increased opportunities and a level playing field.

Ayakoz Schneider's journey exemplifies the transformative potential of disability entrepreneurship. Through her efforts, she not only defies the barriers that society imposes but also paves the way for a more inclusive and accessible entrepreneurial landscape. Ayakoz Schneider is a trailblazer, illuminating the path for entrepreneurs with disabilities and igniting hope for a more equitable and empowering future.
