Tamyr Bazaar Wins NU Impact Foundation Grant - A Cultural Platform That Weaves Stories, Skills, and Solidarity

Achievments
We are delighted to share that Tamyr Bazaar, an initiative of the Nazarbayev University Research Center of Entrepreneurship (NURCE), has been awarded a grant from the Nazarbayev University Development Fund. This year, the focus of the exhibition will be on collaboration between local and international NU students through participation in intercultural activities.

About Tamyr Bazaar

The idea of the Bazaar was born after the launch of the book “Tamyr Reflection: 33 Narratives”, which celebrated voices and stories of NU’s diverse community. Since then, the project has grown into a unique cultural platform bringing together local artisans, designers, performers, and international students.
Over the past years, three successful editions of Tamyr Bazaar have been held, each combining exhibitions, masterclasses, and cultural exchanges. The event has been opened by NU President Dr. Waqar Ahmad and closed by Provost Professor Loretta O’Donnell, who personally awarded certificates to participants—highlighting its significance for the university community.

Project Leadership

The main organizer of the initiative is Alua Nurbayeva, supported by a dedicated team of NU students and staff volunteers. Under the umbrella of NURCE, the team ensures that Tamyr Bazaar reflects both professionalism and creativity, while serving as a welcoming platform for cultural dialogue.

Objectives and Future Plans

The grant will allow Tamyr Bazaar to:
  • Strengthen the masterclass program by inviting around 40 artists, craftspeople, designers, and food producers, including specialists from other regions of Kazakhstan.
  • Engage international students not only as participants but also as co-organizers, encouraging intercultural collaboration.
  • Promote Kazakhstani culture through crafts, fashion, storytelling, and cuisine, while also creating space for the exchange of global traditions.
Two major editions are planned with the new funding:
  • Winter Bazaar (November–December 2025), aligned with Kazakhstan’s Independence Day celebrations.
  • Spring Bazaar (March 2026), coinciding with Nauryz festivities.
Both events will feature workshops, fashion and art displays, food stalls, and festive performances.

Why It Matters

Tamyr Bazaar is more than a fair—it is a bridge between cultures and generations. It provides a platform for Kazakhstani artisans to showcase their work, gives students leadership and organizational experience, and helps international students feel at home in Kazakhstan.
Thanks to the support of the Development Fund, Tamyr Bazaar will continue to grow as a signature cultural event at NU, enriching campus life and building lasting connections across communities.
