In the Media: Abai’s Philosophy Inspiring Modern Entrepreneurship

Kursiv Media highlights how NURCE’s research projects, led by Professor Shumaila Yousafzai, integrate Abai’s 19th-century wisdom — including the Tolyk Adam concept — into initiatives for women entrepreneurs, entrepreneurs with disabilities, and grassroots business trainers.

Professor Yousafzai and her team emphasize a powerful message, especially for scholars across the Global South: stop relying on theories that were never designed for your context and start trusting the wisdom rooted in your own language, land, and people.

They believe that integrity in business ultimately brings only benefits. As Abai advises in his 43rd word of wisdom, one should practice moderation in all aspects of life:

“There is a measure to everything on earth, the good things of life included. It is a great blessing to have a sense of measure. […] One ought to show the right measure in eating, drinking, amusing oneself and getting rich, in seeking power, and even in practicing caution and vigilance in order not to be tricked. All that is excessive is evil.”
