Equitable and Sustainable Horizons: Advancing ESG Training and Implementation in Kazakhstan through Abai’s Philosophical Insights

Project Description

The ‘Equitable and Sustainable Horizons’ project focuses on advancing ESG training and implementation across Kazakhstan, targeting the development of 500 SME owners as master trainers in ten project locations. These master trainers are tasked with further disseminating their knowledge to an additional 2,500 local entrepreneurs, substantially expanding the reach and impact of ESG standards. This initiative places a strong emphasis on inclusivity, ensuring diverse community sectors are engaged and benefit from the training. By integrating Abai Kunanbayev’s philosophical insights, the project enhances the cultural relevance of its approach, aligning ESG principles with local values and practices. This strategic integration aims to foster ethical leadership, promote sustainable business practices, and drive significant socio-economic growth throughout Kazakhstan.

Equitable and Sustainable Horizons: Advancing ESG in Kazakhstan

Led by Principal Investigator Professor Shumaila Yousafzai and Co-Principal Investigator Professor Philipp Schroder, the Equitable and Sustainable Horizons project represents a pioneering initiative. Generously funded through a new CRP grant, this project aims to make a profound impact on the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) landscape across Kazakhstan.

Empowering SMEs Through ESG Training

The core objective of the project is to develop and implement comprehensive ESG training for SME owners across ten project locations in Kazakhstan. These owners will be trained as master trainers, responsible for passing on their knowledge to local entrepreneurs. This extensive train-the-trainer model is designed to amplify the reach of ESG standards, significantly enhancing sustainability practices within Kazakhstan’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Inclusivity and Cultural Integration

A fundamental aspect of the project is its commitment to inclusivity. The training is designed to engage diverse sectors of the community, ensuring that the benefits of ESG adoption are widely and equitably distributed.
By incorporating the philosophical insights of Abai Kunanbayev, a revered Kazakh thinker, the project not only honors local cultural heritage but also aligns modern business practices with deeply rooted local values. This cultural synergy is expected to enhance the receptiveness and applicability of ESG principles among Kazakh businesses, fostering long-term, sustainable growth.
